Idaho Governor Calls for Gray Wolf Kill

BOISE, Idaho

Idaho’s governor said Thursday he will support public hunts to kill all but 100 of the state’s gray wolves after the federal government strips them of protection under the Endangered Species Act.

Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter told The Associated Press that he wants hunters to kill about 550 gray wolves. That would leave about 100 wolves, or 10 packs, according to a population estimate by state wildlife officials.

The 100 surviving wolves would be the minimum before the animals could again be considered endangered.

“I’m prepared to bid for that first ticket to shoot a wolf myself,” Otter said earlier Thursday during a rally of about 300 hunters.

what a dick. i will never understand that mindset. If I hit roadkill, i feel guilty. If I make roadkill, I feel like shit.

When i was at the firehouse, the firemen were watching a show about buffalo hunting. The hunters were so excited about hiding in an abandoned cabin and shooting the biggest bull they could find. It took three shots and the buffalo never even saw them. Then the fuckers went on and on with sick praise about how beautiful the carcas was, how rare it was to see one that big…

There are two kinds of people. One looks for something to conquer, the other something to nurture.

    Hey Andy,
I just found it really strange that, through most of my life I’ve heard about how endangered the gray wolf is and all the efforts that were in place trying to restore populations…..now that the tireless work of these people was successful, they have to reduce the population to 100? It just doesn’t make sense. They’re systematically making them endangered again because the wolves are eating what they naturally eat…and hunters are pissed that the wolves are stealing all the big game from them? What the crap?
