I saw this the other day and was immediately irritated. It looks like they died in each others arms and probably wanted to stay like that for eternity… but eternity ends when scientists from our century make a discovery. They will probably be removed, studied and who knows after that. I am for throwing the dirt back on top and moving on.
I don’t know what the circumstances of their death, but I think your right in pointing out the disrespectful nature of digging up bones.
I do like the notion of humanity presented in this picture. I like the way it allows people to identify with our 5000 year old ancestors. But science is concerned with objects, not subjects, and I think that illuminates the issue you have with it.
