Man, this stuff just gets weirder and weirder doesn’t it?
Iowa wildlife experts are looking into a new deer contraceptive that could curb the state’s multimillion-dollar-a-year overpopulation problem.
The new, single-dose birth control vaccine would neutralize sex hormones in the famously fertile and polygamous animals. It would result in infertility in both males and females.
Well, at least they’re not trying to teach abstinence only. If deer react to birth control in the same way that humans do…..Iowa is going to be full of nauseous, hormonal deer running around with swollen breasts. This is, plain and simple, a really really bad idea.
So there is a lot of deer….too many to shoot apparently….and the solution is birth control? How about introducing natural predators?
Lately NAU has not been afraid of a little controversy. William Blum spoke here last week and it was the first time in a year that any university has invited him to speak (a year ago, Osama endorsed his most recent book…). Also, don’t forget, Derrick Jensen will speak at NAU on April 10th! (don’t worry, I’ll remind you)
And now, despite a little resistence, NAU is hosting the touring Sex Workers’ Art Show. It should be pretty illuminating, a sneak peak into the lives of sex workers around the world.
You’ve stumbled upon the adventures of an English teacher and writer, peddling deeper connections to a physical and emotional reality in Northern Arizona.
