the fuel question becomes even more rediculous and closer to home.

City officials are evaluating whether to spend nearly $500,000 next year to test a machine that is supposed to turn sewage sludge into heat, liquid fertilizer and a hydrogen-based fuel to power government vehicles.
The device, which is not in operation anywhere else in the United States, would essentially burn some of the biosolids left over from the sewage treatment process at Flagstaff’s Rio de Flag plant by putting the waste through a 10,000-degree electric arc.

This technology has been explored for several decades, and I did a research project on it in 1999. The benefits are that the technology offers a way to break down composites and polymers into their sub-components and even into individual atom groups. This a way to squeeze as much out of recycling as possible. The drawbacks are listed in this engineering description- http://cat.inist.fr/?aModele=afficheN&cpsidt=4455676
The City of FLG should pioneer trying this technology out, even if the efficiency issues have not been resolved. Any steps towards efficiency technologies should be explored. In the end though, its all about learning to do more with less!
