The UN climate chief says a breakthrough is essential.
US President George W Bush will not be present, hosting instead a meeting of 16 “major emitter” countries in Washington on Thursday and Friday.
However, the attendance of 150 countries and 80 heads of state makes Monday’s meeting the most high-level UN gathering on climate change.

I think we all or that is most of us understand that the UN is a big joke. After all, they could not enforce the sanctions that they themselves approved for inspections in pre war Iraq for 12 years.

I’m not sure who the “we” and the “us” is you’re speaking for, but there are millions around the world that have lost faith in the UN….such as the Hutu’s in Rwanda in the early 90’s and those suffering from genocide in Darfur right now, among others.
Still, 80 reps from around the world show up in the US and he doesn’t bother to go? I will be interested in learning more about this meeting of “major emitters” though.
